I buy on line because the fabric costs here in Canada are attrocious for anything but the mundane. I try to buy from collections for a particular quilt so I don't worry about colour. I have had a few doozys. I buy most of my batting on line too. Fat quaters or one yds pieces I'll buy local. I know I'm not supporting local shops but I can't afford to pay all That hidden import tax.

Sometimes the color is off a little, so if I need a specific shade, I purchase from a LQS.
Price will tell you the quality of the fabric, I buy when they have specials, but they still list original prices.
My LQS doesn't have any sales anymore and I can't afford to pay $10.65 a yard. And postage is about as cheap as
spending the gas. More convienent as well. I buy from 2 places, Ericas and fatquartershop,
and have always received great service and good quality fabrics.

I buy from Honey Fork Fabrics and they will send you up to 10 swatches of fabrics at no charge. Just email them with the fabric #! http://www.honeyforkfabrics.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi

I buy the majority of my fabric on line. I've learned which sellers on E-bay have good fabric. You need to watch for pre-washed fabric. Not that thats bad, but sometines it's because it has been sitting around so long it smells. That can be hard to get out. There are alot of sellers on E-bay that are qult shops selling on line. Much better prices and selection than alot of LQS. If someone is interested in ones I've had good luck with I'd be happy to share. I also buy form the online shops and no problems. Once you register they let you know when there having a sale. If your buying different fabrics form one line they will all match. When I am at a LQS I take note of fabric I NEED to have and look for it on line. I hate to do that to the LQS, but I can't afford as much if I shop with them. I do make a point to spend $ some there. It's hard for me to leave a shop with out something.

I only buy Moda online rarely any other brand unless I'm looking for something specific. I don't have a LQS so I buy charm packs and when I get them I look thru the fabric and order off them what I need in yardage. Some would say it's a pricey way to do it but I always get what I want and really what can't you do with a charm pack??? If other manufacturers sold charm packs I would try them too. I also trust the members on the board for fabric sales.

I mostly buy extra of fabrics I already have, fabric manufacturers I know are top quality and fabric I can't find at my LQS. I have never had a problem and have been pleased with what I get.

I love shopping online. and like someone said, if you buy from the same line you are assured of coordinating those patterns and colors. I have 3-4 favorite sites and have only been disappointed 1 time. the shade of red was not as "red" as I needed. but it worked fine in the next quilt for the grandsons!

I usually buy prints online then find fabric to match at my LQS. The internet is also great to find "last years" fabrics or is your LQS doesn't have enough. You can do a search for the fabric you need. I use this place to search for fabrics. http://quiltshops.com/
You can search 200 quilt shops all at once. Find the fabric you want then compare prices at all the different store.

For blenders I purchased a Moda Marbles card from Hancocks. This card has swatches of all the Moda marbles. You can match the color you want then find it online. It works great.

I shop online and have never had an issue. In fact, recently I ordered some fabric from Over the Rainbow in Camano, WA (overrainbow.com) and she didn't have all that I wanted, so I asked her where I might get more. She actually contacted the mfr for me to see if they had any more. They didn't, but I was impressed that she did that for me. I have always had good luck with her and other shops.

I go to the several LQS around, but there is so much variety online. You just have to try and see which vendors you like. If your monitor is current and the vendor uses a decent scanner, you can get a fairly true idea of the fabric colors. Another option is go to the mfr website (if known) and look there.
