I have seen a bundle of 19 FQ's I really like. Can I make a double quilt? Any suggestions as to pattern? I though maybe D9P as I am a beginner, (first quilt but have sewn clothes for more years than I care to say) or any other suggestions? I have found a matching fabric for borders and binding and am I right in thinking I would need about 2 1/2 yards for the borders? Any help or suggestions welcomed :)

Can you find one more FQ to go with the bundle? You can make a 'Turning Twenty' from 20 FQs.

Don't think so. It took me forever to find any of the matching fabric by the yard and it is already in the bundle. Will have a look though to see if I can find anything else to match.
Just looking for particular shades of colours so my other alternative so far is to buy by the yard in another make. So far I have found seven fabrics in that one but could maybe add another couple that match?

I would have to purchase a pattern for any that I did so wouldn't know the fabric requirements?

I just tried to do a D9P with a lot of FQs and it turned out to be too busy and all the squares looked like flags. I think D9P looks best with fewer colors. Have fun with the FQs.

I just looked at my Yellow Brick Road pattern, and it says it needs 18 fat quarters. It is a pretty popular pattern, though you have to buy it, it is not free like many of the patterns are. No, wait....that is for twin sized. Maybe you could do that size and increase the border width? It says 24 for the full size.

Sorry, I thought I had found the answer for you. :(

if you want to- you can- i don't think it will be that big= unless you add some yardage---maybe a background, or sashing/borders to bring it up to a usable size

figure if you did not cut the fq's up- just used them as is and sewed them together---4x4 (using 16 of the 19) you would have a 70"x 78" top (18" ((width of fq) x 4 = 72 - 2" seam allowance---x 20" (length of fq)x 4=80" - 2"=78"

if you cut them up---it's smaller---each seam in a block subtracts another 1/2 an inch===plus the 1/2" you loose again joining the blocks.....so= 19 fq's will make a throw-type quilt---

How about using that extra fabric you found to make one more fat quarter, then use a solid or tone on tone for borders, sashing, binding....or whatever? If it's your first quilt, that Turning 20 might be a good investment for you....might even find it used or on ebay.
