I use 505 spray, and have never seen Sullivan's.
For the 505, I go direct to quilting, if time permits, without any serious problems.
From what you have said, it sounds as thought the Sullivan's may "break down" and not hold the sandwich together after a period of time. The 505 will keep it together, forever ... yes, I have some old UFOs!
Re the residue on the needle ...
I think that is more caused by we with the heavy trigger finger on the nozzle. for putting more on than is really necessary. I keep some single packed alcohol swabs at hand, and if residue builds up, then I just give the needle a good wipe down and it is gone.

My go to is the Mettler TA101. It has less odor to me and I use it to float quilts on my LA. It doesn't seem to gum up my needle.
I agree with several of the others that more is not better, I tend to take the "spritz" or quick spray approach. Otherwise it does get tacky.

I used spray adhesive to sandwich a baby quilt together. I wonder if it is going to "dry" and not be sticky so when I machine stitch or hand quilt it my needle won't get sticky as it passes thru the layers. Cant believe I didn't think about this before I sprayed it. What to do? What to do? Please help.
