Can I teach myself to sew on a Singer Red Eye?

04-28-2022No reason why you can't learn to use a treadle. I learned on electric but prefer to use the treadle for most things now that I have the hang of it. You will need to turn the hand wheel toward you slightly on a red eye when you feel the motion of the treadle under your feet just go with the flow.

I learned how to sew on a treadle when I was 12 years old; some of the machines in "Home Economics" were treadles but most were electric. I loved the treadles and we all had to be able to sew on all the machines. Musical machines, I guess...

Thank you so much ,,,, I think I had my feet placed incorrectly... I practiced 30 mins....then, I left machine open and will practice your way tomorrow... plans are to sit down each day I have time and practice. Really is fun.... maybe I will even sew with needle and thread at some point. Will practice bobbin filling later. lol

I think you can learn to sew on the treadle! I learned to sew on a treadle in 6th grade and then last year got one. It all came back after over 50 years of not using one. All the other suggestions are right on target - once you get going you will see how fun and easy it is.

I'm thinking about getting a treadle.. I've been practicing at my kitchen table.. I put a glass top on a treadle base... I get excerise while eating.
