That's a pretty design, but look at all the partial seams it would take to make it! You can see that the person who made this one was having trouble getting them to come out right. It would be a terribly difficult quilt to make.

I'm curious. . . what steps did you go through to find the answer? I didn't know what to google to pull it up and the person who posted it on pinterest didn't post to a source, just the image.

Now that I know who to give credit for the inspiration, I'm going to redraft my own version without Y-seems.

I won't be able to post a tutorial with pictures though, because I'm garbage at cutting with a rotary cutter for long seems and I don't have a 3" strip die for my cutter. Around that size I just have 2.5" and 3.5" strips which doesn't match my hexegon sides. I'll be purchasing the 3" die when I see the next decent sale.

But don't worry, you won't have to have the AccuQuilt cutter to do it. I'll have cutting instructions for a rotary cutter. I'm just rotary cutter challenged.

I went to the pinterest page, found the "originally posted by" link. There, there were some comments, one of which (conveniently) said "what pattern is this". The oiriginal poster had replied, with the link I gave. The challenge was figuring out how to find the true source of the picture on pinterest.

Of course, you didn't help me because you only posted a link to the pic, not an actual pinterest page. I had to google image to get that (drag your photo into the image.google.com search bar).

It's a really, really rough drawing. . . but I wanted to go ahead and share how I'd sew this with the fewest number of Y-seems possible.


P.S. I really liked the name Milk & Honey as mentioned by Shana in her post, so I've dubbed my version of the quilt that.

Cool. What about going one further, and sewing half-hexagons in the center section? That would eliminate all the Y-seams I think. Or split the coloured half-hexies into a diamond and triangle, and you'd be able to make large diamonds from hexie + 2 triangles and center section wouldn't have any y-seams.

I think Julie Herman has a quilt pattern like this and she has the hex ruler for it. Looks easier to make.
