My friend picked up this unfinished quilt at an estate sale, bless this quilter's heart as she had many more pieces cut out and ready to go but we're not sure just how she was doing them! These are all hand pieced ... would love to finish this as she had started it... any thought? Thanks so much! Gretchen

There is a wonderful Cathedral Windows tutorial here on the Quilting Board. Go to the tutorial section and then enter "Cathedral Windows" in the search box.

I couldn't figure it out even after having bought a book that included a pattern. I had to watch someone do it several times. I don't do online videos, but maybe someone else will be able to suggest one. Or maybe seeing the half finished quilt will be sufficient if you find some written instructions.
This looks like pretty comprehensive instructions.

It is a beautiful quilt which can can now personalise and finish. It is done the traditional way with a square of fabric folded and centre of your choice.

I've seen them done many ways - but this photo really confuses me. The lady who taught me did hers by making double sided circles - white and colored. She would stitch them, together wrong sides together - turn right side out and close the opening - then she would tack them to a backing cloth at 12,3,6 and 9 oclock - colored side up - "fold" around the edges and stitch them down to the backing material.

There are lots of ways to do cathedral windows, but looks like this was done the same way as in the machine tutorial, (except stitching by hand instead of machine). I hope you figure it out - it looks like a lovely quilt!
