One of my DD friends asked if I would sell the King Size Celtic Solstice quilt I just finished. It was very labor-intensive and has a tremendous amount of fabric yardage, plus the batting, thread, LA quilting service, etc. For those of you who made this quilt king size, what would you recommend asking for it? I really doubt that the person inquiring can afford it.

A king size quilt would be hundreds...$200 for fabric, $200 for quilting, $200 for labour.....plus thread..$10...batting..$50....plus use and wear and tear of machines, electricity...minimum $750....the last one I sold wad $650... Much smaller than a king ..and even there I undersold I think...

If you don't want to sell it then asking the price you deserve won't be problem. I would not take less then $1000 if I really needed to sell it.

I wouldn't sell a king size quilt for less than $2000.00, especially if it was labor intensive. I would imagine you paid a lot more than $200 for the quilting.

Figure out the yardage (front and back), times $11.00 per yard. What did your batting cost you? What was the cost of the quilting? Calculate the cost of thread, needles, shopping for the fabric, and prepping the fabric. Then take into account the number of hours you spent cutting, piecing, etc., take that times a minimum of $10.00 per hour. (and that would be dirt cheap labor!). Add it all together, the add a couple hundred dollars for the items you forgot about. Will you ever make another one? Do you really want to part with this one?

I too would love to see the quilt in question. I never charged my customer FULL retail especially if I purchased the fabric or notions on sale.

Although I did not see a picture of your quilt, I am sure you have many hours of labor and costs into it. I would estimate at least $1,000. only if you do not care to part with it. I have as much as $700 or $800. invested in my quilts not even counting all the labor time. I haven't ever tried to sell any of them. I mostly just keep them to love or give the away. The love of our quilts are priceless!

A good guideline for pricing is to figure out square footage then charge $20 - $35 per square foot depending on complexity. You stated this was labor intensive so I would use the $35 rate. A 100" square king is 100 square feet, X $35 = $3500 (use you'd measurements to determine your price
