It depends on how the quilt is going to fit. A regular twin size mattress is about 34 X 75 inches. If you want a nice hang over, I usually go 54 X 90. I would figure out how fabric to do the top in 1 fabric and then divide by 2 and then add an equal amount of the second colour. This is just a general guideline because it depends on which Chevron pattern you use. Some are made with rectangles or some with triangles.

I just made a chevron quilt using long cabin blocks - it is for a full size bed, two tones, I purchased 3 yards of blue and 3 yards of orange (going to be a man's Met's quilt) and 3 yards of a blue and orange batik for the borders. I made 42 blocks that are 11 1/2 inches. I have 1/4 yard of the orange and blue left, so this took a lot of fabric to make, a lot of strip to cut and piece.
