i have searched and searched the web but cannot find a really cute pattern or idea for a child's xmas stocking. I want to make one for my new granddaughter - her first xmas. has anyone made one before? i thought about just sewing strips together and than cutting in shape of stocking but would like other ideas if you have any. thanks guys!

I made stockings in the shape of snowmen and embellished them when mine were small. I also used that same shape to make bears. You could make the bear out of quilted scraps.

I have a book by Nancy Halvorsen and I used it to make appliqued stockings for my kids. I've attached a pic of them.

When I made the "gotta have one for everybody" (kids, spouses, grandkids) stockings the Christmas after our house burned, I used various solid or blender fabrics for the body of the stockings (each one different) and then made a 'cuff' at the top that coordinated with the main fabric but was unique to whoever the stocking was for...plaid, snowmen, teddy bears, crocheted lace (red satin stocking), Christmas trees (green blender fabric stocking), gold and cream stripes, Christmas ribbon, etc. Don't remember all 14 of them off hand! Anyway, they came out really cute and everybody liked them.

Gale your stockings are gorgeous. I have made a ton of stockings but never tried applique on them. Will have to do this.
