I don't think that I'd turn it into an attic window type design. I think Paper Princiss describes what would happen very well.

I agree that the elements would be separated from each other and would appear chopped up with the basic scene lost.

I agree that the most successful approach might be to appliqué the "windows" so as not to distort the design.
