I took an 8oz sour cream container and cut an opening across the lid, big enough for rotary blades and about 1/8" wide. Snapped the lid back on the container and set it by my machine. Now I have something to throw dull blades, bent pins, and dull needles. When it's full I can toss the entire container in the recycle bin. No more needles and blades in the waste basket. VERY INPORTANT: lay the lid on a cutting board and cut with utility knife - don't try to cut the lid when it's on the container!

I make those fabric mug organizers, Imagine making a larger one and using coffee tins. You could use them in the bathroom for hair stuff, kitchen, craft and sewing room.

love all these ideas that were mentioned some of which i already do too. however I didn't see these mentioned.
I use the large oatmeal boxes for the empty plactic bags to keep by the cat box, or the kitchen .also the large oatmeal containers will hold 2 rolls of toliet paper for the bathroom and can be decorated.they are also good for knitting needles or crochet hooks i use the boxes that pies come in from the bakery to keep my redwork . empty spice jars or tins are good for old needles too. as mentioned baby jars can be used for all sorts of things, i had one friend who made xmas trees with them and put small lights in it as a gifts. and if anyone needs a sewing table and has a flat type door and two 2 drawer file cabinets it is great. out of all the sewing tables that is still one i liked to use. i wish i had room here for one. it was great with sewing machine at one end and just roll over a bit to use the serger. ceral boxes make great holders for magazines. that is all i can think of now that i didn't see here yet. thank you everyone for your ideas i always pick up more from this board which is great.

this isn't for crafts/quilting, but I have a plastic coffee container and it is perfect when i need to do a small clean up job to put the soapy water in. ( 2 lb folgers one)

I use the baby salad greens containers that I buy at Sam's. they are perferct for fat quarters, and will usually hold a enough for a quilt. I keep one quilt in different containers, till they are sewn.

My husband buys jelly type candy when we go to the store. He won't buy chocolate. If I buy chocolate he always eats mine first.So I buy my own and put it in a zip loc and hide it in my trash can in my sewing room. He's not allowed to empty my trash can. He knows I hide candy but hes never found it. I use notebooks to write down the quilts I want to make and where I can find the pattern. Must say it's a 3 subject notebook. I'll still be making quilts when I go to that quilt heaven in the sky.

You can take metal coffee cans (labels off) and metal paint cans and you can actually adhere fabric to them with a heavy weight fusible. Once you've attached the fabric, you use mod podge or another similar product to go over the fabric and it is permanently on and you can wipe it clean. Kids love decorating them too and they are great to make teacher gifts (fill with candy or cookies) and you don't need to buy an expensive tin or box that will be thrown away.

There are also patterns for caddies that use coffee cans as the base.

I use diabetes test strip containers to carry pins, needles, and other small items. I use Crystal Lite containers to make up mini sewing kits with thread, needles, pins, snips, ripper, and thimble. Empty prescription containers make perfect holders for broken/bent pins/needles. No dangerous sharp points in my garbage.

I use eye glass holders to store my rotary cutters, pick them up @ goodwill. Use tbe foam swimming noodles for binding, cut in 8" lengths w/ serrated knife, easy to roll a lot of bindung on& can stick pins in it. Make row markers w/ safety pins & alphabet beads row a, b, c, etc. To mark rows when putting quilt tog.
