when is cotton prices rising? That shouldn't affect the price of fabric yet but they sure are going to raise it for the all mighty buck! I've been hearing cotton is going up but haven't heard when. If it affects fabric, it's definately going to affect batting, unless we all go to polyester.........

Most places here are already going up. One LQS is getting new stuff with higher prices. She isnt raising the older fabric prices, butsome stores are.

I received my Keepsake Quilting catalog yesterday and the prices have gone up. Thousand Bolts shipping just about killed me....paid almost the same price for shipping as the fabric I ordered! Just think what clothing prices are going to do with the price of cotton going up. We quit raising beef because we could no longer afford to and it was back-breaking work taking care of them.

I hate to question your math but $4 x 80% is a $3.20 raise, not $1.60. You may panic now.

An 80% is actually almost double, I think what you calculated was a 20% increase. Still, somehow you managed to get close on a price per block. Except that you are buying at least two fabrics per block, so I would add more to that cost. And for a large quilt, I would have to add in long-arm costs.

But I take your point. I bought enough fabric last year to ride this out, and all I really want is to create. No dust on my machine this year.

I buy nice fabric for $4 and sometimes less at Marshall's in Batesville, Arkansas. I think I once saw their ad on this list. Store is not pretty and in a run-down part of town which probably means low overhead. They have a $1 table and I often find acceptable fabric on it. Most of it has mistakes in dying, but recently I found wide bordered tablecloth fabric that had been torn. It will work fine for piecing. They sell bundles of fabric, and bolts of batting, neither of which I've bought. There are no Wal Marts in my area that sell fabric by the yard. The one in Batesville sells fabric but they are in cut pieces that are hanging; I surely hope that endeavor fails.

I'd have a great stash if I could get fabric for
$4. We don't need any price rise when it's already $20 plus
