Hi everyone
thought I posted this last night but cant find...apologize if it's a dup. Thought it was a pretty stupid ?? but in searching for my post came upon "batting alternatives" posts and so maybe I'm not too far out there, so to speak, lol! Anyway, did a lap quilt from a jelly roll yesterday (super fast/easy) and went to pull out my batting and was short. I searched my remaining bins and pulled out what I thought was warm/natural but it was white felt. Interestingly, very similar depth/feel to it. In researching felt, it appears some *good* felt has quite a bit of wool in it so at first I was thinking this might be a good alternative (way to use it up as well). But this is cheapo Joannes, craft felt so doubt the wool content is super high. Any thoughts? I'm going to town today so can pick up some more (I think if quilt shop open.. grhhh
....Joanne's NEVER has anything I need)... but if I cant find, what are your thoughts on felt? I will be meander quilting the throw so quilting will be kinda close.... thanks!

My biggest concern with using felt would be shrinkage.

There are different kinds of felp - some are washable, some are NOT! Make sure you know which yours is, because if you wash it, and it isn't it would clump big time! Good luck!

Since it's white, bleeding wouldn't be an issue, but some colored felt is not. I'm still not convinced it would hold up to repeated laundering in a bed quilt, but might pass in a wall hanging.

You may try the burn test to see - poly will melt, wood will be hard to burn and smell like burnt hair.

Burn test huh?? LOL!! Actually I've heard of that.. At very least I should wash the stuff, huh?? It is white and it is cheap, so I will try to get more in town today. This was possibly going to be a wall hanging but maybe too big in which case it will be something for family room and will get washed a lot, so......great points! Thanks!!!! I do have a bunch of felt in other colors, hmmmmmm???? :) :) All these posts on scraps have me thinking outside the box!!

You could always use your felt scraps for a beautiful appliqued wall hanging. You wouldn't be washing it, and it would be beautiful :D:D:D

Can I get away with prequilted cotton (Joann's) for a wall hanging, backing & batting all in one? I have a hard time handling bigger quilts. My pieces are for the wall. Thanks for sharing your experience!
