What is the best way to create a quilt design? Does anyone use software to do this? I am new at quilting and so far I am using graph paper to create my designs. Is there a better way?

Many of us use the EQ (Electric Quilt) software. I started with the inexpensive trial version Design Wizard and then a year or so later went to the full blown EQ7 when it came out.

I use EQ for color placement. I'll make several with different arrangements. Sometimes I like the secondary patterns better in one than another.

I use graph paper. I can draw out a pattern faster than figure out the software. And I find I am more creative with a pencil than with a mouse/keyboard.

I use Excel and Publisher for designing quilts.

Maybe, but I use graph paper (smile). I like the process of drawing it out with colored pencils and much less expensive then some of the software.
