Every brand of long arm was at the Mid-Atlantic quilt festival this week. It was wonderful being able to test each one. I love going to quilt shows, the people you meet are always so lovely. Quilters are like no one on earth. You can sit down and instantly have a conversation about anything. It was wonderful going to lunch, you could sit at any table and find a friend.

A couple of things I should have mentioned - As Shari said - the cost and the HQ Sweet Sixteen doesn't take up as much room as a stand up. One of the reasons I finally took the leap is because the price was about $600.00 less than it was offered locally...and life is short!

So do you find with a long arm, you don't get as much time to do as much piecing as you'd like? Do you have people asking you to do quilt tops for them? I love to sew and quilt. It would seem to me that if people know you have a long arm you won't have time to do the things you love. How do you all feel about this? Thanks

Just let it be known that you dont quilt for the public and I don't think it would be a problem. If you start taking in their quilting however, you'll get busy pretty quickly. Seems word travels quickly if you have a long arm.

Instead of telling people you don't quilt for the public, how about offering to let them pay to use your machine themselves? Anyone ever done that?

I have a Pfaff Grandquilter and a Next Generations. Since I have just retired I hope to get more use out of it.

I have quilted off and on for over 30 yrs have owned two short arm, one mid arm and now a long arm Innova 26" that I just love.

I purchased a HQ16 last spring - and love it. It is a great machine - I have done 8 tops since I set it up. I have turned into a "finisher" not just a "top maker" .

Yea Finisher is such a great feeling . I love your saying you are a finisher not just a top maker. That was my reason for owning my own LA machine I wanted the glory from start to finish of the quilt top.
