I love my Sizzix Big Shot Pro (comparable to the Sizzix Studio), it can take all the accuquilt dies as well as ones that Sizzix makes. It is very versatile, however, it does not fold like the Accuquilt, so if Space is an issue the Accuquilt would be then I'd go with as far as the manual machines go. These work well for doing lots of repetitive cuts for piecing. I use mine all the time for turning scraps into standard size squares, or if I'm working on a quilt that requires lots of cutting.
My partner, Dan, has one of the earlier versions of the silhouette cutting machine. Most people seem to love these because they are very versatile. They are similar to the Cricut machines, except that you can design your own patterns in addition to purchasing designs that you download from your computer. He has found it to have a very steep learning curve. I think if I were looking for something specifically to use for appliqué, I'd go with one of the electronic cutters-- people who have the Brother machine seem to like that one a lot and I've heard that it has less of a learning curve than the silhouette.

I use the hex die for Go. I use the smallest size for paper (I use cardstock) and the middle size for fabric. Works great and a generous seam allowance. There are three sizes on the die. The newer die for hexie and paper have too small a seam allowance.
You can buy pre cut hex papers in any size you like at https://www.paperpieces.com/ Also fabric does not have to be hex shaped to make them. I prefer using square fabric if I have to cut them by hand. It's the only way to get a perfect print design centered on the hexie. There is no need to be precise in the squares cutting, as long as it's bigger then the paper for folding over.

I have the Accuquilt Cutter which is a work horse and comes in very handy for cutting my own strips. I am going to make the checkered Dresden Quilt....mine will be scrappy as well but will be using a mix Fusion fabric from Moda.. greens, golds, rose, grey etc..

Haven't read all posts buy I had the Accuquilt Go hand crank and gave it away and bought the Go Big Electric. My shoulder just couldn't take the hand crank any more. There are a lot of quilt shops having the Go cutter on sale for Black Friday. It is $100.00 off and is not manual. Google it to find out who is having the sale. Probably every shop who carries it. Good luck.

No. It's about $70 off when you pay, then you get a rebate form you probably have to fill out and mail in to get the remaining $30. I would love to get the Go! Big, but this is still not good enough for me since my manual Go! works just fine. I need the price to come down more before I will consider it. Maybe next year.
