There can be issues with getting service I know that some of the dealers here will not honor the warranty if you don't buy from them. When it was queried with the company they said it was the dealers choice and they would not do anything.

My son worked for a sewing machine dealer and he did tell me that the sewing machine companies do make a lesser quality machine for the big box stores to sell as they buy them in large quanities to sell them cheap. I don't know for sure, but I do know that people who have bought at Wal-Mart don't have as good of luck with machines lasting, and getting them serviced under warrente is difficult.

Bought a Brother 1500s a couple of years ago from Amazon for about 525 including shipping. (They have gone up a couple of about a hundred since then)The I saw an identical machine by a more upscale manufacturer (Babylock?) with a different name at local dealer for about 1600 dollars. Spent some time with it, opened it, looked underneath, sewed, fooled with all the controls, lifted it (heavy), check out the instruction book. Identical machines. Identical instruction books except for the name. Look around. Dealers do not just repair and service the machines they sell, that is an important part of the business and they want to make money. Never needed any servicing for the Brother, but have had a lot for my Sapphire 850. Always had it done (including warrantee thin) at a dealer other than I one I bought it from.

This whole thing really bothers me.

Are we supposed to NEVER move? What if your job takes you across the country?

Honoring the warranty and service agreements is a very strong reason to buy a Husqvarna. I find it to be unbelievable that a manufacturer would allow their dealers to give such poor service! I will make darn sure that any sewing machine I buy in the future won't come from a manufacturer that condones such shoddy business practices!

Dealers offer assistance in teaching you how to use the machine. The dealer I know does one on one, going through all the features. I have always heard that Walmart, Joann's, Hancock machines are not the same quality as dealer. You get what you pay for. I have heard of some purchasers buying a cheap machine at Walmart with no problem, and vice versa. I guess it is how much you want to risk and pay.

I bought my machine online as there are no dealers in town except big box like walmart. I bought it from kens sewing center in Alabama. the price was as good as walmart and the service was better way better. I had a small issue and it was resolved immediately they shipped a replacement part that was broken in shipping out as soon as I notified them. ive even bought accessories and other items from them since at great prices. since I don't have any place here to buy a machine if I decide to upgrade ill buy from them if I can. I would like to buy local but its just not possible. it just means ill have a bigger learning curve if I buy something difficult to operate.

$1600 is WAY too much for that. You can get is for $1000 - $1200 from a dealer.
