Dear Jane, Farmer's Wife, Etec.
Has anyone created their "own" mini block sampler quilt? And if so, did you name it?
I think most of us that have been doing this for a while have made variations of the blocks in public domain.
I did start making some of the blocks similar to the ones in the Jane A. Stickle quilt popularized in the Dear Jane book. (Notice - I am NOT saying a Dear Jane quilt)
(hate it when I miss a typo in the heading )

Some girls from work and I made a sampler row by row quilt! Does that count? We wanted to make a quilt for a former boss. Our only rule was that it had to have purple as the main color. It was double sided and went together really well considering our varying styles. I suppose we named it "Tammy's Quilt."

I haven't done it but I have thought about it. It would be so clever and cute to try. I would definitely paper piece it. Let us know if you decide to give it a go. I thought about it with the Farmer's wife quilt in 30's solids.

I made one with 99 4" blocks, and made it very personal. My favorite things, like a paper-pieced running shoe, an apple, a block with my state, two different cat blocks, blocks to represent the four seasons, a book, a library. There was a Double T block, because both my father and my son have names that end with double t. And so on. It was a true sampler, with different techniques. Even the number of blocks was intentional. I just named it Dear Jenn.

It's nice to see your own history in it. Do you think the other ones that are being copied have their own personal histories?

Yes, I do believe that there is a personal history sewn with every stitch, maybe not obvious to others right away.

I think I'm working up to that (making my own sampler)... I'm doing the FW 1930's quilt right now, and will follow with a Civil War sampler. I'm saving blocks I love on Pinterest, so eventually I think I will make my own quilt.
By the way, what's wrong with saying "Dear Jane"? I've seen other quilters make similar comments and just wondering if there is some 'buzz' I am unaware of, regarding the DJ quilts. What's the scoop?
