Decorative stitching on a crazy quilt

Subscribe
How do you determine how much decorative stitching to do on a crazy quilt, I don't want to stitch on every single seam as there are so many and I don't have the time or desire to . I don't want to put lace or ribbon on it as it is also for a guy ( a 50th wedding anniv. gift) & I don't think he will appreciate the lace and she is not really a lacy person either.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all who have any ideas...

Maybe do one or two main seams per block?

Are you doing the decorative stitching by hand or machine?

How about doing the 2-3 biggest seams on the block?

Probably by machine as I have only a month to finish it. There are a lot of small seams and not very many large ones & it is not done in blocks but as one large piece of crazy quilted fabric.

Interesting question. Spiderwebs are supposed to be good luck. Perhaps you could try and do a spider web in a different color and or size in a random scatter all over the quilt. If it isn't already quilted or tied in some manner that would take care of that problem also. Please post a picture. If you haven't yet done the decortive stitching it would help us help you.

traditionally every seam in a crazy quilt is somehow covered- either by some sort of embellishment or decorative stitching-
traditionally

it is your project and you can do as much or as little decorative stiching as you want-
since it is not blocks it may be easier for you to kind of mark blocks- make a grid depending on the size of it prehaps 10" or 12"- what ever seems (good) to you--
then you can decide which seams in that block to do---and continue around that way- it will help you keep it balanced- so it stays even across. depending on the batting you are using--the batting really determines how much quilting you have to do- some batts recommend quilting every 2" which is quite dense quilting- others allow you up to 10" between quilting lines- so see what your batting says- then look at one of those blocks- determine a good (path) of seams to do some decorative stitches over.
once you get going you may find that it goes pretty fast and you will decide to do more- just try to keep it balanced.
show us pictures---you know how we are :)

The pattern that I saw shows it as a border in the middle of a purchased blanket. I have not quite decided how I am going to it yet, I am just trying to get the crazy quilting part of it done. Has anyone ever sewed on a purchased blanket before. The pattern is showing the center of the blanket with nothing in it and the crazy quilting as a border around the center part only. It looks like the center is a blank picture and the crazy quilting is the frame, if this makes any sense.
