I mainly use plastic stencils that I have purchased all over the place. Sometimes I will just do some echo quilting around various pieces within the blocks as well. Most quilts will 'speak' to you about what they want. But I agree with Jan in VA...if you're putting that much effort into the quilt, you want your stitches to show!
