    You are going to need pins. Sew each strip first in a long strip. Then move the second strip up a 1/4 inch, pin straight up or down, or you could just baste, then open to see if the corners match. The horizontal seams will match up.

    Thank you everyone for you suggestions! I will try and see what I can come up with. But I think I might have to use a different layout or the easy square in a square, which is good, but I did one already and was hoping to come up with something a little different.

    if all else fails, you could always put a skinny sashing strip inbetween them.
