There was a star on the QB some time ago and the points of the star were small as yours are. I think the block is fine if the rest will be the same.

If you have already cut all the pieces, you could cut down the center piece to fit the size of the other pieces.

Is the center block too big? Should the points of the triangles meet at the center sides of the square? I have never made this pattern and personally avoid triangles so I am probably no help at all.

Thank you everyone!!! I suspect that there must be several variations of the Ohio Star block, or Star Block. I do agree the center block does look too large.. however, I followed the pattern instructions, checked and rechecked measurements... so apparently this must have been intentional. All the pieces are cut so I will continue to make the other 2 blocks identical to this one.
I have attached the photos from the instruction sheet. This is a block that was made by many quilters during a church quilt camp. I have not seen all the blocks we made that week put into a quilt so I am unsure how the 'points' issue is resolved. We made enough of these blocks in patriotic colors to make 3 quilts for Veterans for our area.
Now my thoughts are, that I don't think I actually made a mistake according to the directions I followed... these look identical to the blocks I made in quilt camp... so I will continue on.
I appreciate your input soooo much! Thank you!!

If those are the instruction that you posted, I don't think you made a mistake. So many traditional blocks, designers are taking a twist to them to make them different, just like reinventing the wheel. I think your block looks fine.

The only thing I see that I would change is the center block. It seems to over power the whole block. Otherwise I don't see a problem.

I like the star block you made. It looks more like a sawtooth star than an Ohio star to me, but names change sometimes.

From your pattern it doesn't look like you made any mistakes. I love it, mainly because I have used all those fabrics more than once and still might have some left over!!

I like it & the mix-and-match yellows look nice. As long as you have enough of the 2nd fabric to cut some more triangles with it, I think it will be a beautiful quilt. I really do like the variation on the traditional star. The no-tip pentagon (I guess I'm supposed to call it a 5-sided polygon) shape is really interesting.
