My daughter named her cars and inspired me at one time to name my machines. The machines I use the most are named. The LA Gammill is Gertrude. Then I got stuck. Maybe the Brother 1500S should be Plain Jane or maybe Martha (Biblical character who was the worker).

Then there's a Bernina with all the Bells,Whistles and Frills. That needs a high maintainance name or maybe the name of a military ship. The traveling machine is a Necchi. It was supposed to be my traveling machine but turns out to be too big and heavy. (Here's one for a non-flashy, very likeable and keeps doing her job; maybe Mary). I do really like it cause it's easy to work and no embroidery capabilities.

So when I can drive (2 more weeks), I'm thinking to check out the Nicchi for a minimal machine that weighs less than 15 lbs and does a straight stitch...for traveling/classes/sew groups.

I have a hard enough time remembering the names of all the humans in my life!

My daughter named her car "Bradley", when she was in her early 20's. I thought it was silly.

My Dressmaker is named Sweetie Pie. The new machine I have, I can't come up with anything yet, so I call her what feels right when I roll up to her in the mornings. Right now, it's either Cutie Patootie, or Snookie-okums (last word pronounced like book with out the B and then ums).

Mine have names.....their first name is Janome and they are "my 15000, my 6600, my 3160 when I refer to them to other humans in my life. I don't talk to or name my car, refrigerator, stove, microwave, lawnmower, vacuum, etc. or any other appliance type machine I own either.
My mother names the plants in her yard after the person she connects with it. So when she talks about Joan (some tree) or Margaret (some group of flowers) but also real people in her life, I have no idea what she is talking about and I think she sounds nuts. LOL She thinks I am nuts too so all is good.

I haven't named any of my many machines. But I have called them some bad names when they weren't working properly:-)!

For those of you who remember the band Guns n Roses- my machine is named Brother Brownstone. Because "I used to do a little but a little didn't do it so a little got more and more. I'm just trying to get a little better, just a little better than before"

My machines all have boys names. When I bought my longarm in NC, from a quilt shop who was upgrading to the next year's model, the owner told me all her machines were boys because they were easier to get along with, and didn't argue. That was good enough for me, so I have given all my machines boys names. The longarm is Bob, did you ever know a "Bob" you didn't like. And my Babylock Aria is named Hank, no particular reason, easy to remember. My Babylock Katherine has undergone a "sex change operation" because she has been very difficult to get along with, so she has become Kenneth. My reason for naming them is simple, when you bring a pet or a loved one into the home, they are named. My machines are a part of the family, so they have names. Life needs to have a lighthearted side to it.

Yes I do! I have Bernice my Bernita, Sally Sapphire my Viking, Gabi my little Janine named for my DGD, Aunt Gertie is my 1955 Featherweight, Ruby is my 1941 Red Featherweight and my 1951 Viking Automatic is Barry Green (Barry was my dearest friend and I will always miss her). Sally started a group of hand Quilters about 45 years ago which I joined when I moved here 11 years ago. Aunt Gertie was my aunt and she would have been delighted to know I named my machine after her. She was a quilter and the worlds oldest Avon lady. Gabi is my granddaughter and I taught her to sew when she was about 7 or 8. At 14 she is more interested in friends but I have hopes she will sew again. She had a brief sewing session in school and she proudly reported she was the only one who could thread a machine. Ruby is named that because she is red and she is 1941 like me and a Ruby is my birthstone. Bernice is jut because.

I think the names are fun.... My first machine was given to me by my parents when I graduated college...a Bernina 830 Record (the mechanical 830)...I call her Clarene (after my mom who was the real seamstress in the family). My sweet hubby gave me a Bernina 750QE a few years ago...he surprised me with it. She’s Bernice... I won a little featherweight at my guild (it was a fundraiser and my number was called!! Quite a prize!!). She’s Shirley after the former owner. I’m not very imaginative...but I love reading everyone’s posts!
