Sure you can. Scramble and mix them up. Throw caution to the wind. Have fun!

I'm one of those people who tries but always ends up laying things out contrary to what I'm "supposed to". I can't follow recipes exactly either. I try to set out the blocks the way the pattern indicates and then end up moving them around to suit me.

I love the idea of mixing them up. Sounds like an oppurunity to make 2 quilts, one mixed and one not. Like the advice to lay them out and see what strikes you.

The D9P's that I liked best have the center block of each 9-patch the same vibrant color: white, black, or bright solids. Very small prints work too, but large prints get lost when you cut them into 4 pieces. That way the whole quilt looks very scrappy, and you've used lots of your scraps, but the bright center pieces (which are now quite small) give a patterned look to the quilt.Originally Posted by KarynneStorm
I have used up all my scrappy squares and made 9 patch blocks, and then cut them for a D9P. I am excited to start sewing, but my question is: Do all the squares from the same 9 patch block need to stay together, or can I use them each as their own block and put it anywhere. This quilt is so so soooooooooooo scrappy. I will post pictures once I get some of it worked up. Any advice or options are helpful. Thank you!
But this advice is too late for you, since you have the 9-patches already made and cut. Then I'm with everyone else. Play with them and have fun.
