I buy more then I make. It's hard to resist all the beautiful fabrics all together in one roll.

I too used the JT shape cut rulers and cut all sizes of strips and then sub-cut. That's about the only way I can be sure my cutting is accurate.

I cut my own jelly roll strips with my Quilt Cut system. But I always do at least two of each fabric. Like others have mentioned, I try to sort them into colour groups. Or I will use random colours and patterns if I'm doing a jelly roll race where the strips are cut and re-assembled. Not only does this save time, but I can use up all the WOF odds and ends lying around.

Jelly rolls are so FUN! And there are jelly roll pattern books galore, free online patterns and great ideas to take advantage of them. MSQC has a nice assortment of them; the daily deal prices are good, too. I also make make my own strips with AccuQuiltGo cutter's help. I have made quilts using a mixture of store bought and "homemade" strips with great results. Go for it!

I love having 2.5" strips on hand. If I come across some "weird" fabric in my stash, I cut it up. I often use those strips for binding on my charity quilts. They add extra color to the quilt, stripes, polka dots, etc, just add a bit of sparkle to the quilt.

I was working in a local quilt shop when I first learned to quilt. One of the "senior" employees started cutting 2 1/2" strips off of all the end of the bolt fabrics. I asked her what she was going to do with them. She said she was going to make a quilt. I couldn't figure out how she was going to make a quilt with all those different fabrics. Some plain pieces, some florals, some Christmas, some juvenile prints, some everything. I never figured it would work. So - it turned out absolutely awesome! I was so surprised, and it taught me a good lesson. Your fabrics don't have to match to make a very nice quilt.

I LOVE the JTSC. I can't cut a straight line to save my life.

When I am "processing" my scraps, I cut a lot of 2-1/2 strips, even if I don't have a full WOF available.

I use them in "jelly roll" type patterns, and also for scrappy bindings. I looove scrappy quilts so that's my favorite type of binding to use.

The last couple jelly rolls I purchased precut were not any more accurate than if I cut my own. Some were short on the length and some on the width.
