She never labeled them! :-( I wish she had...I've been taking them, a few at a time, to an appraiser. The only quilts that I know the dates on are the ones she gave me. It would have been so nice to have the dates and the reason for making the quilts. She also never took pictures of her quilts...and she made hundreds.

My on-going project is making labels for my quilts and also for my aunt's. At least they will have her name and where she lived in case they sometime pass to someone's hand that wasn't related to her!

I also keep a provenance on all my quilts with pictures, size, date started, date finished, the story behind and the making of the quilt with picture. I was lucky enough to decide to do this early on in my quilting, so that I have all of them recorded.
Just recently starting my quilting career and with reading this board, I have kept a very detailed record with pictures of everything I work on. I'm now (and will always be) glad I have this information.

"Paul Plays the Blues" looks like a quilt for a musician. I like it a lot.

yes \i name mine BUT i am terrible at putting a label with name on the quilt. Names for mine are'new baby' 'dad's 2am feed'(this one is going in the festival of quiltsNEC it started as a collection of music fabric and grew to a double sided hopefully show stopper.)
It snowed at christmas. On my HELp thread for two colour bindind is a small photo.
Yellow peral ( This was an idea from a sweet treat delivery when I was looking inspiration to do a Lilly quil(tAngie quilts blog)
Does anyone know how to make a fabric envelope to put on a quilt then place a label in when I feel like it or even paper until then?

I name every one - even wall hangings - even if it is just for me!

They all have a purpose and personality which needs to be acknowledged. A name does this.

Several years ago I started a Carrie Nation Quilt. Done in Red, white and blues for freedom. I'd love to have the courage to give this to my ex. The simple pattern has given me so much trouble. Coincidence? LOL

yes I name them all. I do a lot of "giveaways" for homeless people and I name them things like " Patches of Hope" "Patches of Prayers". My daughter named one that she did not see, I described it to her, it was yellow chickens. She named it "Buttercup Love" much more of an imagination than what I have.
Just name them from your heart

My mom's table runner is "The Favorite One" because her's was the very 2nd project I ever worked on and everyone said "course you did her's first, she's your favorite!" Seems like if you listen....there's a name for every quilt ever made......some printable and some not! :) This weekend I worked on a project to hopefully put into the next International Round Robin and I named it before anyone in my family could jump in........I give it a week or two and they'll have come up with a different name!
I LOOOOVE that Laurel Burch fabric! That looks awesome! (I used a tiny scrap of an OOP Laurel Burch horse fabric - all I had - in a Round Robin center, and one of the other quilters added more LB horse fabric in their borders for me - I was so happy about that).

Sometimes I name them but I always take a picture, list the pattern name and the size along with a sample of the fabrics used and put it in a clearview and then in a loose leaf notebook. It is fun to look back and see if I am progressing in my skills and choices of patterns and fabrics. Also reminds me of who I still need to gift with a quilt.
