I stitch around the outside and clip. Binding is not my favorite part of quilting, so I don't bind rag quilts.

Does anyone know what I can do for my rag quilts? I made 5 for Christmas for my grandchildren. 2 of them ragged beautifully, but the other 3 did not rag as well. Is there anything that will make them rag better?
    Thanks.

    Did you use flannel?

grammy of 6, I always use flannel on the inside and make my seams 1/2". Did you use 100% cotton? Cotton blends won't rag as well.

lynnsim, all 5 of the quilts are 100% flannel.

Sadiemae, I used flannel for the top, the backing and the batting.

I decided to clip the outside edges and glad I did. I don't think I would have liked binding it. Enjoyed making this one so much that I ordered some green flannel with cars and trucks on it to make one for my grandson. Also got 3 solid colors to mix in with the print. I think he'll really like it because they're so soft. Mine is in the washer right now so when it's done I'll post pictures of it. Do wish I'd made it a little larger. Didn't take into consideration the amount of loss on each block due to the larger seam allowance. It's a good size for a lap quilt. Can always make another one.
