Do you dream about quilts to come?

Usually its the opposite. Typically, quilts to come is what keeps me awake at nights at times. I have come up with some very complicated quilts for the future and sometimes I couldn't get to sleep because I'd get the urge to get up and figure out all the mathematical or artistic details or feel that if I didn't do it now I'd never find the time or completely forget what I was supposed to do in the first place. But whenever I quilt or plan quilts I always have a DVD on to listen to. On my second quilt, I had back to back Gundam Wing episodes playing and there were times I'd go to bed and dream about interactions with the characters in the show. lol.

I made a quilt for my husband for our 45th anniversary. It was from places we had been in the past 45 years, culminating with the center square being our home and paths (running stitch) to where our families came from. I used natural muslin and embroidered the outline of the states and then free hand or tracing, did the memory stuff - like grasshoppers from South Dakota when our cabin was being invaded by those marauding bugs, Chopsticks from Chicago, water lily from the Amana Colonies, Hoover Dam from when we were in Las Vegas, etc. I embellished it with a glass blue bead representing our 45th year (sapphire) and gold thread for the coins from the casinos, both in Nevada, New Jersey and Minnesota. It was a long project, but it turned out just perfect. That way you get exactly what you want and your embroidery is just as good as already printed fabric - if not moreso. Everything was totally related to our 45 years. Actually, I drew a picture of our home with the three paper birch trees. Anyone would know what it was. That was my project. It was sashed, bordered and then I did the shadow for the quilting. He loved it! Edie

Ohhh, I would love to see it! I have planned and replanned a quilt in my head for a trip my hubby and I took from CA to PA this summer. We hit 12 LQS's in 9 states in 12 days, would like to take the fabric from each place and make a block for that state. Also have some Rt. 66 material as we followed that for some of the trip.
You have inspired me to continue to dream and plan this quilt by telling of your quilt. Thank you!!!!

Ithink a dream is something a wife and mother has to keep them sane! I dream that I will get all my cooking done today so I can really enjoy tomorrow. Hey, it's coming true - It is 7:51 AM and I am more than half done with what I have to do today and then I can sew. What more do we need????? Edie

I am sitting here sewing away and got to thinking after hours of food prep for tomorrow. I am thankful that I can quilt, I am thankful that I caught on to it (not counting all the mistakes yesterday, today and tomorrow, I am thankful for my Mother (93) who taught me how to quilt, I am thankful for my little space to do my quilting, I am thankful for my 12 year old stash , I am thankful for my husband who always says "This is better than the last one" and I am thankful to all of you who have helped me with my questions (What is a ribbitt?) and what I have learned from other questions. So Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Edie
