Do you have any old quilts from your grandmothers, family?

I thankfully have my husbands grandmother's mother's wedding ring quilt top. It's not finished and needs some TLC. I was glad that I told his grandmother before she passed away that I want that quilt top. My husband's parents sold the other quilts when they moved her from AL to CA. We were so crushed.

I have two quilts from my DH's Grandmother, or Great Grandmother. There are no labels so we don't know which one made them. One is a Double Wedding Ring and has tiny pieces that are pieced to make them big enough to use. The other is a Drunkard's Path. They are in very good shape, both hand quilted, and I have them hanging in our hallway.

I have a quilt that my great grandmother hand pieced. She died in 1939 so I know it was done prior to that time. She made the quilt top for my father, but it was never quilted.
After he passed away, I had it hand quilted by the Post Oak Quilters. Daddy also had a quilt top his mother had made. I took it and tacked it together one weekend and gave it back to him for his birthday. Not long ago I brought it over to my house and washed it. Some of the stitches have come out so I plan to take out all of the tacking and repair it, then I will quilt it on my machine. I wouldn't trade either of these quilts for a box of gold.

No one in my family quilted. My mother sewed all my clothes including coats and they were beautiful. A couple of my first husband's aunts made quilts out of scraps and I have two from Aunt Fern that are about 30-40 yrs old. I 've had to re-sew a couple pieces that have come loose but otherwise they are in good condition considering we use them all the time and they get washed often. She always bound hers with prairie points.

Pam, it's a treasure...and thanks for the memories of watching my grandmother's friends quilt and chat together as they quilted on one hanging down from the ceiling on a frame. They did so enjoy each other's company! I enjoy the Quilting Board as the next best thing :D

I love my treasures. I am lucky to have 2 from my Great-great Aunt Sadie, two from my mom, one from Grannie, 3 from my MIL. Newer ones are from my GD who is 12, this was her first quilt, one from a dear friend/cousin, and I have 42 quilt tops I rescued from garage sales etc. They are stored in a 1929 chest my Grannie left me and I am keeping them as is. I wish people used quilt labels so I could find the owners familes. And of course I have my eye on a few to get when relatives pass but will wait patiently.LOL
