Do you really need to iron 1/4 seams before nesting?

Exactly! develop correct techniques .....I am not a fan of JD. Yes, she has been the face of attracting new quilters to our craft but there is nothing like improving the finished product results as ironing as you go does. Do you stop stop signs? : D
