There was one in the department store on Main Street when I was a child. I always enjoyed watching it measure fabric. Then of course fabric was my major addiction even then.

Yes, I remember those. Wonder why they got rid of them. It seems it would be beneficial to both the customer and the store. The only problem would be if the fabric was off grain, and when they ripped it, it wasn't straight from the cut as measured. We've all had wonky fabric.

I remember it, but I have no idea what it was called. I think they were probably more accurate than having a clerk measure, but most quilt shops add a little extra fabric before cutting "just in case",

My goodness, do I ever remember that NOW, after looking at a picture of one on Ebay. It was in our Woolworths when I went with my Gramma and she bought fabric. How sad we now get JoAnn people who cut way off the straight grain, sometimes off by 4" or more with a scissors!! I don't get fabric there anymore for that very reason!

They are still used! I believe my quilt store in Dayton uses it and I know there is a quilt store or two in Amish country that uses them.

JoAnn's uses them now for measuring batting and drapery fabric.

Oh yes, I remember well. And not too many years ago I found one still in use in a Ben Franklins basement fabrics area. I was really surprised! I also remember when Walmart had one of these.

I'm suddenly feeling very old!
