I use cotton/poly blends and poly. Poly is warmer, but over the years, it can lose loft. EVERY fiber does. The more you wash the quilt, the more it shrinks which puffs it up a bit between stitching. Various people keep giving me batts, always poly and I use it on giveaway quilts - not because there is anything wrong with it! I'm at a point where I have to give away more quilts because I don't have the space to keep all of my quilts. For my own quilts, I totally love Quilter's Dream or Warm and Natural. I tend to keep quilts with darker fabrics and there is less of an issue with fiber migration with these.

When I first started quilting, I used polyester all the time. It is cuddly, but it has a tendency to beard, i.e., it works out through the fabric. Use it for things that you don't expect to last long. froggyintexas

I especially use poly on quilt that my grandkids will be getting and using all the time. It holds up for their use and also keeps them warm and the quilt is not heavy for them.

I only use the Warm Company's Soft N Bright poly. It has a similar feel to their 100% cottons. It quilts very nicely. When I first started frame quilting, I used poly batting. Lots of issues, not least of which was catching the foot on the fibers. Once I used the Soft N Bright, that was the batting for me. I have quilted on Warm & Natural. I like it also, just don't like shrinkage.

I use Mountain Mist quilt light and it has outlasted the fabric I made the quilt of. The quilt is on the bed and has been used for over 20 years and it is still as fluffy as the day i made it. The fabricis wearing out, but not the batting.

Isn't there a fire risk in using polyester ? We were told in one quilting class it will adhere to the skin if it catches on fire, such as wrapping a baby or child in it if emergency in exiting a home that was burning, there fore use warm and natural or a similar batting.
