When I took a class from John Flynn recently he showed a quilt where he used a double needle. It was a 2 color (blue and white) quilt entirely quilted diagonally.Maybe they were all half square triangle blocks - cant remember. He put white thread in one side and blue in the other and used the smallest double needle there is. Using the narrow needle eliminated the "railroad track" effect on the back which can be ugly. So when he sewed across the blue blocks you only saw the white thread and when he sewed across the white blocks you only saw the blue thread. It was a very clever techmique.
