Default embellishing a quilt

For those of your that embellish quilts, do you sew on buttons, etc. when you finish your top and quilt around the objects, or do you quilt/bind/wash and THEN put on the embellishments?

I put them on after the binding is finished. Buttons and rhinestones can get caught up on the table or bed of the machine while adding binding.

Always embellish the last thing you do on your quilt, at least that's what I do!

For embellished quilts I quilt and then embellish! I usually do not wash wall hangings with a lot of embellishments!

A friend of mine, Eva, embellishes as she sews. But....she does hand quilting. Most of her work I have seen is intricate beautiful applique quilts with additions or on pieced quilt tops with applique borders. She uses beads, buttons, gimp, small yo yos, small hexis and many other items from her workbasket on her work. Personally, I am a hand quilter so would do as she does and embellish as I set together.
