I have a Janome 300E embroidery machine. Could anyone tell me if you can embroider a simple design through 2 layers of fabric and warm and natural batting? As I am not good (yet) at stippling with my regular sewing machine was wondering if it was possible to use the embroidery machine to quilt with, so I thought I would ask the professionals. Thanks.

Yes you can if you can hoop it you can embroider it but I am not so sure with two layers of batting that you will be able to hoop it. Try on a practice piece.

Two layers of fabric and one of batting is no problem for an embroidery machine. Check out "quilting in the hoop" on the internet It is very popular right now for people with embroidery machines. You can float batting or fabric with your hoop. Both can be attached to stabilizer or fabric that is hooped by means of adhesive or basting.

There are lots of sites with ideas and emboridery files you can download. There are even stippling emboridery files.

I quilt in the hoop all the time. You just hoop it all up like you would any design. The batting acts as the stabilizer. You need to use quilting outline designs or it will look terrible on the back. You may or may not need to change your bobbin tension depending on your machine and the design. Make a practice sandwich and write down your settings so you don't forget. Easy, peasy:>
