I've just started makings hexies -- I purchase the templates at the quilt show in Des Moines. Haven't figured out a design yet but have had fun making them anyway!

I keep them in so it is easier to connect them together. So as there is a row with them and then remove them. Not sure that makes sense, hopefully it does.

I use freezer paper, cut my own hexies, place the freezer paper hexie with the dull side against the wrong side of the fabric hexie. then press the 1/4 inch seam allowance up over the shiny side of the freezer paper.......PERFECT!! The freezer papers can be used over and over. I have made two large quilts using this method. Works great for me.

I use card stock, and I use zig 2 way glue on my paper. I let it dry then it is reusable. I baste each hexie the whip stitch them when I get the flower done I starch the piece and press it well, then take out the basting and the papers. I have a plastic template so I can cut the fabric to the right size. I use the strip method so I just have little triangles left, I will use them as batting in something. I tried freezer papers but for me they just don't stick long enough for me to baste them.

I love the portability of doing EPP. I've sewn my stuff on cruises, airplanes, in the car and at tailgating. Never tried the mylar pieces. If you're looking or design ideas, paperpieces.com has a section where they show to several patterns and tell you what size shapes you need. I don't really like to sit around and read books, so this fits my lifestyle. Working on my 4th EPP quilt.

I'm making my first hexie and am using mylar. I love the stiffness of it when I'm sewing. I use a glue stick to do mine, and they're quick and easy. It's mylar plastic all the way for me!
