I would pre-wash the flannel, it shrinks a lot!

Great job on the quilt. Yes, i use flannel for batting. Going to start using more of it. Like the feel and i don't like regular batting because it is to hot.

Sure, it works fine....but JUST IN CASE the quilted piece ever gets washed, be sure to prewash and dry in the dryer the flannel first. Flannel has a really high shrinkage rate.

i have used it quite a few times. I've washed and dried a few times before using - very linty.

I used RED flannel on my very first quilt for batting. I knew NOTHING about quilting, was pregnant and made hand-embroidered quilt blocks for my child (40 years ago). After I set them together, I had a bunch of red flannel, so I washed it and used it. Worked fine but after 40 years the red is showing up at the seams.

But my daughter still loves it so it worked just fine.

I have used flannel (after washing it) in a couple of summer lighter weight smaller throw type quilts. They turned out very nice. And am thinking about soon tackling a queen size summer quilt with flannel as batting.
