What machine do you have? I have the Janome 6600MC and I did replace the front bulb with an LED bulb - which made a huge difference. I also have a desk style Ott lite that sits on a shelf above the machine which also helps. I have the light that sticks to the machine - but it seemed to get in my way so it sits in a box right now trying to decide if I want it on my 15-91. My FW also has an LED bulb and I love it. I bought a small portable LED light - it runs on batteries or plugs into a USB port.

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions. I am trying to find extra lighting for my mom’s Singer sewing machine. She is 81 and needs extra lighting. I like the LED strips that was suggested, so I am going to start with them, and maybe some for me. I also saw some LED lights with a gooseneck that either mounts on the machine or has a magnet. I am not sure what the magnet would adhere to, but I am going to research it some more.
I didn’t know that about the frosted bulbs. I will have to check and see what she has as well as mine.

I ordered mine from Walmart.com - it's the 12v LED # 4117810. It was $13.00. I wasn't able to find it right now. Someone on the Janome Yahoo group said you can get one that fits in a car and they are cheaper - but I was concerned when a sewing machine repairman didn't recommend those.

Look on amazon for Cutex LED lights for sewing machines. Instead of a long strip, the light is a 1 1/2" square and works great. I bought 2 - one for my Sweet 16 and the other for my older Bernina travel machine.

I purchased an Alien Light at Meijers. I like it because it doesn't take up a lot of space on my sewing table and I can easily move it around, bend the "necks" etc. to put the light exactly where I need it. Since it is an LED, it gives off an amazing amount of light. Here's the link for it:

‘I just ordered 3 of the Cutex today. One for mom and two for my machines. I also order 3 of the magnetic flexible gooseneck task lamp. The are also LED. I think these will help a lot.
