    Default Fabric brands compared

This video, the quilter compares different brands of quilting cottons. All her opinion but I was surprised at some of the results she noted.

You can't always compare fabric brands. I've bought fabric collections
from the same company (same year) that were very different in quality.
Most of them are quite nice but there's been a few that were not so nice.
Frayed like crazy even with lots of starch.

Interesting, although I had to give up after a while because she was so inarticulate.

The first piece, from Benartex, looked odd on the back and could have been digitally printed. If so, that might have been why the fabric seemed rough or stiff to her.

I've found this to be true too. The greige goods seem to differ within any fabric line. The first time I bought Moda it frayed like crazy, but later I found that it's not always like that.

I watched the video (most of it anyway) by speeding it up to 1.5 times normal. I've found that frequently helps when someone speaks so slowly, but usually 1.25 is the highest I go. She seems to judge fabrics by their softness. That's not my criteria.

I've noticed that the ones doing a video, it they talk slow or in whispery voice I lose interest . It has to be something I want to know about before I watch all of it and even then it's hard to stick with it.

I've noticed that fabric characteristics can vary between designers under the same manufacturer.

I watched the video and actually made notes of the various manufacturers since I don't usually follow brands. If I like the fabric (print) and the feel, then I buy it. It's like buying thread for me. If I need a specific color - that is more important to me than whether the brand is Coats and Clark or Gutermann or Aurifil, or some other more expensive brand. Must admit because of my new love for EPP, I have fallen in love with Liberty fabric and Tilda.

The video I posted is of two similar quilts. One with designer spendy fabric and one Joann fabric. Interesting results
