Civil war reproduction fabrics represent those used during the Civil War in the 1860's plus years. Most of the Americana fabrics are much newer, most I suppose to be since the 1980's. I have purchased both such fabrics since I have had family in the Civil War, an my son in the Marines in Desert Storm, Kuwait. Hope this helps you.

The Americana fabrics are much brighter and have images of modern roots. The civil war quilts have a more mellow dusty type pallet and often dark fabrics with patterns that are found in the fabric of the 1800's. There should be examples in the Smithsonian collection.

At the quilt shop where I used to work, Americana fabrics were usually muted reds, creams and blues (U.S. flag colors but not as bright or vivid). Civil War prints were reproductions or interpretations of fabrics used during that time period.
