I rarely buy name brand fabrics unless I find them at the thrift store.

I buy what I like in patterns & colors & also if it feels good. I can't afford the 10.00 a yard stuff unless I get it on sale although I would love it. I have seen some at the LQS that would make you drool but most of it is $11.00 a yard.

I buy some name brand fabrics because I like them and for the quality too. Fossil Fern by Benartex is a favorite blender/tone on tone, they go so well with lots of other fabrics.

I don't care about designer clothes at all but I do like name brands in fabric. I have favorites and they always seem to carry what I like. But I always shop sales.

Fabrics are a different story. I am picky about my quilting fabrics. I hate working with poor quality fabrics that are rough to the touch. I've had bad experiences with those types of fabrics. I made a beautiful quilt for my Mom and bought the backing fabric at Wal-Mart, it was okay for the initial washing before I put the quilt sandwich together. I washed the finished quilt and there were white spots all over the back where the dye had come off; I was horrified!

I first go for the fabric colors, design and quality before I go for the designer.

I also buy by color. I usually pick from different places in the shop to match up the fabric for what I am going to make---not always what patterns say-- my own color scheme.

And Walmart is marking down right now. Some very good buys. You have to search for them as they are in with the regular collection but it is worth it.
