We were at Kenai, 60 air miles South of Anchorage, at the Air Force Base there. Thoroughly enjoyed the summers of fishing, clam digging and sight seeing. And winter ice fishing. First child was born to us there ('69), so it holds a special meaning to us.

I believe we did a block a week on the FWSQ. Laura came back on line with us in the first and second journeys that we made with her first and second book. She has visited us several times in the last six months...on QB PC discussion.
We were delighted with her visits on line.

Cannot wait to see your blocks and finished quilt.

Good for you! I'm still plodding away at mine because you see I'm still a "Farmer's Wife" and it's summer on the farm. Please share your progress with your quilt. Long Arctic nights-you'll have plenty of time to sew!!

Wow...I looked at the link of one of the other QB member that make this quilt. Incredible! I would find a friend to make a block a month to help keep going. It will look incredible!

This would be a great quilt for scraps. I would do that.

YukonViv as QuiltingNinaSue has already said we did one block per week and it certainly kept us on track, if you can find some willing partners you could set yourselves a challenge or goal to do so many blocks per month, that way you encourage each other as you go along. I would never have made this quilt or the Pony Club quilt without my wonderful friends here on the QB. Good luck

Good luck with your FWS. You will have many hours of enjoyment working on this one. I/m getting organized to do a Dear Jane quilt. Won't start it just yet - have too many summer chores to get taken care of first!

I have this book too, and recently started on the blocks. I'm trying to stick with two blocks a week hand pieced, and I'm piecing the blocks that are shown with the letters as I read it instead of starting with block #1. I'm using fabric from the mirage sampler from connecting threads. So far it's a lot of fun, and I especially love the stories since DH isnt quite a farmer, but we do as much as we can.

I think using the scraps is a wonderful idea. It will make the quilt more personal to you and I bet it was the way the original farmer's wife worked too. Being frugal, yet creating beauty.
