Default faux grandmother flower garden

I was wondering if anyone has tried to make a flower garden this way?
http://video.wpt2.org/video/2111622694/

My sister and I are going to try it over Christmas since she is off 2 weeks. The one that has inspired us is the one the guest shows at the end with the picket fence border (around the 24:00 min mark). Even tho I like all the flowers in it I think around 20 ( 4 x 5) plus background I think we will do the table topper that is around the (18:00 mark)

It is made with 2" pieces but if we make larger 3 - 4 " I can get closer to the lap size with the fence border. If someone could put it in EQ and tell me how the size works I would thank you.

I don't like the quilt shown with this fence but it is a fence pattern.

Here is another one with a fence.

The material is the poppy that Walmart carries with the black background so our flowers are going to be the aqua blue, red and the white daisy with green for leaves. The first border is planning to be that material or use it on the back according to how it looks. I will post a pic of the fabric later.

I cannot see videos on my computer - but if this is where you use half hexagons, then Sewing With Nancy had a show on it recently. It looked really easy. She used quite large finished hexagons.

I definitely prefer the picket fence on the Nancy's Notions video.

let us know how you and your sister are doing with this project. I have done GFG by hand and it took almost a year. I have seen a template for these half hexes at the Missouri Star Quilt site, but it is small....I sort of like the larger size offered by Nancy...almost tempted to buy it...........but I wish it was the hard plastic that you could cut from rather than draw the line, then cut.......

Here is the fabric we are thinking of using. I hope it looks as good finished as it does in our heads!
