I have a rotating mat, but it doesn't have ball bearings. Probably wouldn't be to difficult to make a homemade one...a lot of us quilters are quite crafty when it comes to things like that. I do find it quite handy for the smaller projects and for taking to class.

I really need to get one of these things. I just learned a new block that you make a cut, turn the whole thing and make another cut, doing that 4 times. I used my smaller mat with the ironing side down. But it would be MUCH easier with the rotating mat. Thanks for sharing.

I have the Fiskars yellow colored rotating mat too, sold at Walmart. It seems sturdier and spins as easily as the Olfa rotating mat and it's prettier, cost less too. I keep it on my ironing table for quick trims.

Bella Bo I have one similar to what yours looks like. Mine was made by a private individual and I bought it thru a quilt teacher just a couple of years ago. Only part I don't like about it is how heavy it is.

Bella, I don't have one, but a student in a class I taught on Saturday did. I had not seen them like that before !! Just bought my DDIL one for her bday next week -- I think she'll like it. JUST BE CAREFUL, store it only in a flat position -- mine warped and will no longer turn nicely.

This is one of my favorite quilting tools! I have the larger one in my sewing room and use the smaller one for classes. My smaller one is now pink! I had worn throught the original mat (green Olfa) and I had an extra pink mat, so I cut it to size and super glued it right over the original mat! Works great!

I had one on my Amazon wish list last Christmas. I must have been good 'cos I got it!
I use it all the time and it's a handy size to take to my Quilt Guild.

My husband made me a rotating mat holder. He used a turn-table bought at walmart & a board cut to my specifications. I glued the board on the turn-table and I can change the mat to what ever size needed at the time.
