Thanks! this is all great information. I live in a small town, finding thread is an adventure unless you want Coats & Clark or Gutterman or Mettler. I'd searched on-line but wanted some first hand feedback!

The regular Coats and Clark works fine. Most of the time, for everything, I use the big C&C cardboard tubes of #50 mercerized cotton. It's so smooth and pleasant to work with.

I use Superior Threads; Masterpiece for piecing and King Tut for quilting. I love them!

I just love the Essential Thread from Connecting Thread. I think I have most of what they have now and it's well worth it. Very little lint and I just blow it away and it doesn't seem to collect inside the machine or the bobbin. I haven't tried it in my new Viking Sapphire though.

OK You talked me into it. I just ordered the sets they have from connectionthreads. I can't wait to get them. I have been debating for quilt a while about buying them. Can't wait til they get here. The colors look wonderful. Oh, and the price is great.

What does everyone use for hand quilting? It's hard to find the correct weight and even if it's unwaxed and I wax it, some of it splits. I would like suggestions and where do you get it?

    Here's my 2cents:

I say away from C&C I found that lint to be terrible!

I use alot of Essentials from Connecting Threads (still linty but not too bad) ALL colors & good prices)

I tried some Presencia 60wt. for piecing. I'm not sure if the price is justified yet.

I'm going to get some Superior/Auriful threads soon.

As for hand applique (which I love!) I get the silk 100 wt. thread. You really only need a few basic colors for everything & when you use it the stitches are invisible!!

Please stay away from 5/$1.00 thread!! They will ruin your machine!! The only thing they are good for is to hand baste something because you know you will rip the stitches out.

    Hope this helps!
