The feed sacks are really nice. I guess we did not have any of these, I don't know why?

I remember a story my mom tells. She always knew when she was getting a new dress because she got to pick out the feed sacks. She said she would look until she found several that matched so Grandma had enough material to make her dress. I love the 30's reproduction fabrics. Quilts made from them remind me of quilts that Grandma had.

I remember! I always went to the feed store with Papa to pick out the sacks I wanted for my next dress. Also--flour came in bleached white sacks, and Mama made my "bloomers" out of them.

Collecting feed sacks can be a pricey hobby, the trouble is I love them so much I can't cut into them! You are so lucky to have come across such a collection.

When I was a kid my mom either went with my dad to buy chicken feed, or gave him orders to get several bags alike so she could make dresses/pinafores for me and my sister. She also made sheets and pillow cases from flour sacks and then appliqued and embroidered the hems for "guest" linens.

How much fabric is there in a feed sack? A yard? More? Less? Thanks.

If it was a 100 pound bag - then there was at least a yard in it. The flour sacks held 25 pounds (per my DH) so that would have been less than a yard.
