Felt verses batting for small wallhangings

I saw an article on someone who said she uses felt rather than batting for small wallhangings. Was going to try it on a kit I purchased which had all appliqué pieces die cut. It was a little pricey but certainly nice not to have to cut all those pieces. Finished size is about 18" x 24". What are your thoughts?

I don't see why you couldn't use felt instead if batt if it was just a wallhanging HOWEVER some felt is polyester so as long as you don't iron it, you should be fine. Some felt is not colorfast so don't get your wallhanging wet but if you used white felt, that wouldn't be a problem.

I made a table topper with felt as the backing and batting. The top was hexies and I just needle turned the top on, then hand quilted around each hexie. Came out very nice. As a wall hanging it seems as though it would hang nice.

There are many different materials called *felt*
It depends on what. Felt you are considering. The acrylic craft felt kids use in school, comes in many colors, usually in 12" x 9" rectangles.can not be ironed, or washed- people use it for lots of crafts. Wool felt is washable and can be ironed. I've not seen polyester felt but would think it would be a lot like fleece, washable, iron with cool iron if needed but probably wouldn't need ironing. If its a walhanging experiment & use what you like.
