Finding quilters in new places
#21
I try to wear a quilting pin or something like that on my jackets, you would be surprised how many will see that pin and speak. Have found new quilters this way, some just ask about the pin and then will come to the LQS when some demonstrations are going on. I've been accused of "hooking" people on fabric.

It would be so exciting to have someone to talk to daily about quilting and go together shopping for fabrics. My friend who does go with me, doesn't sew or quilt and I always feel rushed when I go to buy fabrics because I know that's not her thing. My sister and I get to go once in a while, but she's quit quilting and I can't seem to inspire her to start back. We have to go long distances to get to a quilt shop and sometimes I just go alone. It's better for my piece of mind while shopping for fabric.

I did that today as a matter of fact. After picking up my mail with a fabric order enclosed I could not wait until I got to work or back home to look at it. So I opened the package at a stop light, and then kept glancing over at it all the way to work. Then actually took it in to my office to stare at it some more!

My husband went to a lady barber for years and she was talking about quilting one day and he told her I quilted and the next time he went for a haircut I went with him and we hit it off. She had an embroidery machine and then I bought one much later and she really helped me with it. We've become very good friends. Yes, it's great to have a "quilting friend".

If you need a friend, pick a quilter.Three years ago,I was on holidays in Cuba with another friend. She was tutoring me with Hardanger every morning near the pool. People were stopping by to have a look to our work. Since we are *older ladies* a couple would come every morning to say Hello. A couple of days before we left the woman said that she wished to make a quilt one day. My girlfriend said that I could teach her. She said that she would be ready to start in a couple of months. We traded phone numbers, I never thought of a follow up . How often people that you meet on holidays contact you after. She phoned me two months after and since , every Monday she comes to my house and after teaching her now, we quilt together. We are both bilingual French for chatting and English for quilting. I am looking forward to October when we will resume our get-together!
