that is just darling! looks tough for a first one --but you did it--congrats--I would say to quilt in the spaces that aren't appliqued or hand quilted; every space doesn't have to be quilted & sometimes it looks better with less!

Since it is a traditional quilt, I would approach quilting it like hand quilters would such as outlining the applique. I would find quilt stencils of borders and motifs to fit in the other areas of your quilt. For your 1st big project, you did an excellent job with getting this top finished along with picking perfect fabrics. JOB WELL DONE !!
