Default First Quilt suggestions needed

I am just starting to learn to quilt, I have made a small quilt as you go baby quilt and a table runner so far. I want to make a twin size quilt for my niece for college. I am still not sure if I will attempt to quilt it or send it out. But I am looking for a simple modern design a college girl would like. It will be in yellow/gray/black/white colors.

I need to get started soon in case I send it out for quilting, I need it mid summer. And who knows how long it will take me, nothing to judge it by since it is my first large quilt.

any suggestions?

Default First Quilt Suggestion: How about this?

Tezell0801: I have this pattern, it looks simple and good for the colors you are wanting to combine. I haven't made one yet. I haven't had time yet. Good luck. Please post a picture of whatever you make. Evelyn

Oh, I like it, thanks so much! It looks simple enough for a beginner too. I might even be able to quilt that one. I have not attempted FM quilting yet, and don't plan to anytime soon. Some quilts just call for it. This one I might could do with simple quilting pattern.

A yellow brick road might work for you too. Here is one to look at, though mine isn't yellow.

I always suggest "rail fence" for a beginner -- very forgiving pattern that looks much more difficult than it actually is. There are many variations. Try Googling "rail fence quilt" and then click on images to get an idea of the variety.

here is one that is just a series of big blocks. i have this pattern saved, started collecting fabrics for it and it's on my to do list.

the chinese coins quilt pic that evelynj posted is a quilt as you go pattern so when you finish piecing it you will also have finished quilting it. easy peasy.

good luck with your choice and be sure to post an update to your quilt.

I suggest a disapearing nine patch-easy and will look more complicated than it is. It will look great with those colors!

Ten minute blocks are easy too. You can go on you tube and watch step by step directions. It was one of my first I tried!

I would go for a 5 or 6" block with either random patches or around the world. Rail fence is also good. Have fun.
